ASIG participates in the workshop organized by EUROSEA

State Authority for Geospatial Information (ASIG) participated in the online workshop organized within the EUROSEA project, a project funded by the European Union which aims at large-scale coordination in the European continent of national agencies that manage oceanographic and marine data, combining capacities and meeting existing gaps in the function of an international observing system.

This second edition took place online on May 4 and 5 in collaboration with the European Global Ocean Observing System (EuroGOOS). Specialists from the Geodetic Reference Frame sector and the CORS Systems Infrastructure sector participated in this workshop from ASIG.

The following issues were addressed during this event:

  • Global overview of networks, databases and data portals;
  • Status and future possibilities of the GNSS-IR technique;
  • Case studies based on tide gauge data (Mediterranean Area);
  • Automatic quality control and data processing (real-time and delay mode).

The ASIG specialists who participated in this event got acquainted with the latest news, the general situation and future commitments, and also established contacts with other counterparts participating in this workshop.

Training of responsible public authorities on the use of the National Geoportal and the standardization of geospatial data

State Authority for Geospatial Information (ASIG) after the successful completion of the project to improve the National Geoportal system, has undertaken the initiative to increase the technical capacities of the staff of responsible public authorities for geoinformation.

The training focuses on the following topics:

  • The use of new modules and functionalities of the improved system of the National Geoportal;
  • The use of basic layers for creating and updating geospatial data from GIS applications using the network services of the National Geoportal;
  • Harmonization and standardization of geospatial data according to geoinformation topics;
  • The interaction of the geoportal with the GIS systems that public authorities administer.

ASIG experts from the National GIS, National Geoportal and Geoinformation Standards sectors, following this initiative, have conducted training with the responsible public authorities as follows:

  • Water Resources Management Agency (AMBU);
  • National Agency of Natural Resources (AKBN);
  • National Civil Defense Agency (AKMC);
  • National Agency of Protected Areas (AKZM);
  • State Cadastre Agency (ASHK);
  • Institute of Geosciences (IGJEO).

A video that provides information about the “Street View 360º” service

The “Street view 360º” feature has been integrated into this geoportal as part of the initiative to enhance the National Geoportal of ASIG.

This service provides coverage of the road network on the territory of the Republic of Albania with 360° georeferenced images. With desktop software, it is possible to process imaging photos, position them correctly, and send the results to a web server. Users will be able to see 360-degree images where they are by accessing the photo database through the Internet at the National Geoportal, where the photo centers will be placed on an online map/orthophoto for an easier orientation.

Aplikacioni The “StreetView 360º” application provides a variety of tools for creating a database of georeferenced panoramic images for tracking and assessing the state of the road network in the Republic of Albania. With the use of this imaging database, the following tasks can be completed quickly and cheaply:

  • Management of the upkeep of the road axes that are contracted to commercial operators.
  • Management of expenditures for roadside infrastructure (signals, vegetation, lights, etc.)
  • Identifying the maintenance framework’s intervention-required regions.
  • Determining whether to make investments in road axes where none have been made.

The video created by ASIG is provided below if you want to learn more about this service.

Workshop with Local Government Units on the use of the National Geoportal

ASIG, in collaboration with the National Agency for Territorial Planning and with the assistance of the IMPULS Project, organized a workshop at Hotel Tirana International. The theme of the workshop was “Geospatial Information Infrastructure in Albania – National Geoportal,” and it was attended by representatives from more than 50 local government units (municipalities) in the Republic of Albania.

The main objective of this workshop was to present the services of the National Geoportal and enable local government specialists to benefit from their usage

ASIG’s General Director, Mr. Lorenc Çala, and Mr. Anders Ryder, an expert from the IMPULS project, emphasized the need for a national geoinformation infrastructure and its benefits in the decision-making process and the performance of public functions at the local level. ASIG experts highlighted and demonstrated online data and services provided through the National Geoportal, showcasing their usability by local units, especially in disaster prevention and management, urban planning, and property issues.

During the workshop, the steps for user registration on the National Geoportal were demonstrated, along with the various functionalities offered by the portal for both public and private users..
